Longmorn is one of the hidden gems of the whiskey world. As is true of many other distilleries, most of the production is used in blends, but the few single malts that hit the market have hardcore fans around the world. The deep, fruity and robust style, which characterizes Longmorn's new make, performs equally well on bourbon and sherry shades. From time to time, independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail release very old Longmorns, proving that Longmorn is one of those whiskeys where the tooth of time does not bite, but in particular it develops into something quite special.
The distillery was built by contractor John Duff (who also founded Benriach a few years later) in 1893, and has been owned by Pernod Ricard since 2001. Gordon & MacPhail are for the noble single malt what Lennon & McCartney are for pop music. For more than 100 years they have insisted on skipping where the fence is highest. The inherited sense of selecting the best cask from a wide range of distilleries is practiced today as it was 100 years ago. Once the cask is selected, it is transported to G & M's warehouse in Elgin.
Here the cask is cared for and cared for with thousands of other selected caskes until that day in the future, be it five, ten or fifty years later, when the whiskey has reached its top. Only here are the precious drops bottled.
